Die St.-Georgen-Kirche in Wismar ist ein herausragendes Beispiel norddeutscher Backsteingotik und zählt zu den bedeutendsten Baudenkmalen der Hansestadt. Ihre Errichtung begann um 1295, und sie gilt als die größte der drei monumentalen gotischen Sakralbauten Wismars.
Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Kirche schwer beschädigt und verfiel während der DDR-Zeit weiter. Nach der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands begann der Wiederaufbau, der bis 2010 in wesentlichen Teilen abgeschlossen wurde.Heute dient die St.-Georgen-Kirche nicht nur als Gotteshaus, sondern auch als kultureller Veranstaltungsort für Kongresse, Ausstellungen, Konzerte und Lesungen.
Eine besondere Attraktion ist die Aussichtsplattform, die Besuchern einen beeindruckenden Blick auf die Altstadt und den Hafen von Wismar bietet. Der Zugang erfolgt über einen Fahrstuhl, und die Plattform ist täglich zu den Öffnungszeiten der Kirche zugänglich.

The St. Georgen Church in Wismar is an outstanding example of North German Brick Gothic architecture and is one of the most significant architectural monuments in the Hanseatic city. Its construction began around 1295, and it is considered the largest of Wismar’s three monumental Gothic sacred buildings.
During World War II, the church was severely damaged and continued to deteriorate during the GDR era. After the reunification of Germany, reconstruction began and was largely completed by 2010. Today, St. Georgen Church serves not only as a place of worship but also as a cultural venue for congresses, exhibitions, concerts, and readings.
