Bootlegs at Sepultura

With two EMD rebuilds on the head end, TRANSAP train 60.021 rolls down the grade eastbound through the Sepultura along FEPASA’s Subdivisión 10, the only railroad mainline connecting the capital city of Santiago in the Metropolitan Region to San Antonio, one of Chile’s busiest port cities residing in the Valparaiso Region. The eastbound TRANSAP train is bound for Los Lirios in the outskirts of Rancagua, hauling 29 empty sulfuric acid tank cars; these trains go back and forth between Los Lirios and San Antonio on a frequent basis hauling the acid to the port for distribution, making them easy subjects for buffs around the region.

TRANSAP SD39-M3 D-2302 leads with SD40-M3 D-3005 [now D-3051] trailing second. Both units sport TRANSAPs corporate livery, heavily resembling CSX’s YN2 scheme with some noticeable differences. D-2302 is one of four of the class on the roster, originally built as ACL 917 in November 1966 and rebuilt by MPI San Luis Potosi. D-3005/3051 was originally built as CP 5607 in June 1972. It would fall into National Railway Equipment’s ownership where it would be rebuilt as an SD40-3. It would be shipped off to Chile in January 2022.
