The Lone Flower

Compositional Techniques: natural frame, negative space

Sustained Investigation: Each perspective we are given allows us to discover the hidden beauties within nature.

Materials: A fence, four leaf clovers, a single white flower, natural light, my camera, and light-room.

Idea: I wanted to find more examples and uses of natural frame with the fence and saw this specific hole - a lone flower in a field of clovers. I saw it as a hidden beauty amongst the same green clovers and found it only through the specific perspective and angle of the fence hole. This resonates with my idea of perspective allowing us to find hidden beauties in nature.

Process: One I picked the hole, I tried to adjust my camera to use the fence sides as a frame for the lone flower to focus the attention to the color of the flower. The white within the field of clovers was at first hidden, but then able to be seen when looking through the frames of the fence. I also saw the flower against the same colored clovers as a way to show negative space - the main object against a plan background. I call this the lone flower to show how by itself it appears against all the similar colored clovers.
