Faceless Spaceman

Story is work in progress:

The Faceless Spaceman.

The lone spaceman strode through the planet’s eerie shallows, the alien waters parting like liquid silver beneath his boots.

No one really knew who he was—not truly, not his colleagues, not his friends, not even his family.

They saw what they wanted to see, framed him in comfortable labels: explorer, scientist, dreamer.

But those words were hollow, mere placeholders for a person they had never taken the time to understand.

He had spent his life searching, listening, reaching beyond the familiar in hopes of fostering something greater than himself. Yet to the universe, and to those closest to him, he remained faceless—another voice lost in the noise, another existence unnoticed.

He had discovered life once, tiny organisms hidden in the cracks of a shattered planet, struggling to survive in a hostile void. He had nurtured them, studied them, built a fragile ecosystem to sustain them, but when his reports reached the powers that be, they were met with indifference.

"There is no value in what you've found," they had said.

And so, he remained alone. His name unspoken, his efforts unacknowledged, his desire to preserve and understand met only with silence.

The people in his life carried on, oblivious, a mere blink in the infinite stretch of time, a ripple soon to be swallowed by the tide.

When he was gone, no one would remember his name, nor the quiet ache for connection that had shaped his existence

But as the wind carried his final breath away, the planet stirred, beneath the sand, beneath the waters, beneath the silence, something remembered.

Life had listened, and that was enough.
