47/9 with G.E.1
On 31st May 1991 47974 was named The Permanent Way Institution at Newcastle. 6 days later on the 6th June 1991 the Derby RTC loco and the observation saloon G.E.1 are pictured running off the Melksham line at Bradford Jc with 2v01 09:11 Swindon - Swansea/South Wales 2 day tour visiting various buildings and structures, routed outward via Thingley, Bradford Jc, Westbury, Castle Cary, Taunton, Bridgwater and Bristol TM.
The former signalbox closed 17th March 1990 and was demolished and buried in a pit on 16th March 1992.
Note remains of abandoned former Up line, and west curve in background.
G.E.1 was built in 1920 by Great Eastern Railway for it's general manager Sir Henry Thornton and used as an inspection saloon.
Purchased in 1980's by Sir William (Bill) McAlpine and restored as an observation saloon for Railway Heritage Trust tours and kept at Carnforth.
Since retired from the main line and now at Sir Bill's private railway at Fawley Hill.
