CAIMF1083-D0-1980, Class 56, No.56078, (Shed Code TI, Tinsley), at Kiveton Park Colliery-05-05-1981 (Negative No.32-61a17)

British Rail, Class 56, locomotive, No.56078, of Tinsley M.P.D., (Shed Code TI), and built by British Rail Engineering Limited, Locomotive Works, Doncaster, in 1980, is seen here, at Kiveton Park Colliery, on 05/05/1981. A potted history of the locomotive is recorded below.

 

Built at British Rail Engineering Limited, Locomotive Works, Doncaster, and delivered, new to British Rail, Tinsley M.P.D., (Shed Code TI), on 25/05/1980, as British Rail No.56078. The locomotive was withdrawn from service, as being surplus to requirements, by English, Welsh and Scottish Railway Limited, from their Knottingley T.M.D., on 01/012004, and it was placed into storage there. Following a recall back into service, and following preparation, at Toton T.M.D., the locomotive was transferred, to France, on 09/09/2004, on hire to Fertis Rail, a subsidiary of the French railway operator, Voies Ferrées Locales et Industrielles (VFLI), for use in the construction of high speed rail lines. The locomotive was transferred back to the United Kingdom, on 05/05/2007, where, upon arrival, it was returned back into storage, most probably, at Crewe T.M.D. The locomotive was sold to East Midlands Railway, (Abellio East Midlands Limited), in December 2011, and it was transferred, from Crewe T.M.D., to Kingsbury scrap yard, on 20/04/2012. The locomotive is recorded as being registered to Colas Rail UK Limited, at the end of July 2012, and it was moved to Washwood Heath T.M.D., Birmingham, on 15/08/2012, and from there, to Rugby T.M.D., on 04/09/2012, where it was put into storage, until transferred, back to Washwood Heath T.M.D., Birmingham, on 27/10/2012. Following a series of test runs, by Colas Rail UK Limited, which were first initiated in December 2013, the locomotive was returned back into service, on 06/01/2014.
