CAIMF454-P.1995-1941, 'No.12784', or 'Finland', at Hadfields Limited, Hecla Steel Works, Tinsley, Sheffield-15-04-1949

Narrow Gauge, 0-4-2T, Works Locomotive, ‘No.12784’, or ‘Finland’, built by Peckett and Sons Ltd, Atlas Locomotive Works, Bristol, to Works No.1995, in 1941, is seen here, at Hadfields Limited, East Hecla Steel Works, Vulcan Road, Tinsley, Sheffield, on 15/04/1949.

Hadfield's Steel Foundry Company Limited was founded in 1869, and was based out of their East Hecla Works, Vulcan Road, Attercliffe, Sheffield. On 17/03/1913, the company was restyled, as Hadfields Limited, and specialised in the manufacture of steel castings and forgings, which it also made from manganese steel and other steel alloys. The company also manufactured special steels for motor-cars and aeroplanes, projectiles and other war material, crushing machinery, tramway track work, and a manifold range of other steel and engineering products. In 1967, Hadfields Limited merged with Samuel Osborn and Company Limited, another Sheffield based, steelmaker and engineering tool manufacturer, to form Osborn Hadfields Limited, and in December 1967, Osborn Hadfields Limited, joined the Dunford and Elliott (Sheffield) Limited, group of companies, becoming Dunford Hadfields Limited. In 1977, Dunford Hadfields Limited joined Lonrho plc, a South African producer of platinum metals, and was once again, restyled as Hadfields Limited. Lonrho plc closed the last parts of Hadfields Limited, in 1983, and the site of their former East Hecla Works forms much of the Meadowhall Shopping Centre.
