Buddha of Compassion – Chenrezig Statue at Tibet House Germany in Frankfurt

The statue has moved from the second to the ground floor of the Tibet House. The statue is a 2.20 metre tall Chenresig statue on loan. Chenrezig (Tibetan སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས, Wylie spyan ras gzigs) or in Sanskrit Avalokiteshvara (avalokiteśvara) is the bodhisattva of great compassion (mahākaruṇa) in Mahayana Buddhism. Chenrezig has one thousand arms, of which 992 are in the gesture of supreme giving. The one thousand arms represent among others Chenrezig’s wish to protect all beings in a thousand different ways. He is considered the patron saint of Tibet, a country occupied and colonised by China. The female form in China is Guanyin, in Japan Kannon and in Vietnam Quan Âm. The Chenresig statue is on loan from Manoj Rauniar from Hamburg.
