The Star Theatre

The story of this Art Deco treasure in Invermay is a fascinating one. It was built in 1937 and ran as a cinema until 1969. As a single screen cinema it wasn't able to compete with the emerging multiplexes and the huge impact of television.

For many years it ran as a charity store for the St Vincent de Paul Society. However, around 2015 is was converted back to a picture theatre and it continues to run as an Independent cinema showing many of the latest art house movies. It's future was further secured when it was successfully sold to new owners in 2022.
