Light on a Hill
There has been a beacon at Low Head since the settlement was first founded in 1805. This is the third oldest continuously running lighthouse in Australia.
The first tower was built by convicts in 1833, but the structure soon wore out. The current one was constructed in 1888 (the centenary of the founding of Australia) along very Victorian architectural lines. The building on the left houses the only remaining fog horn in Tasmania.
