According to the museums description. This monumental piece is from south asia of the Pandya dynasty. This dynasty initiated the temple building of south asia. This is Vishnu. He sits on a lion throne in a relaxed position. His job in the universe is to destroy evil because it shakes the stability of the universe. Stability here is associated with good and anytime something bad happens it builds a negative vibe. This was built in the second half of the 8th century from the Pandyan period (early 4th–13th century). Exploring indias' artwork has showed me how creative they are on the other side of the globe.
This sculpture represents a larger than life image for what people are. So, because of this, it is one of my favorites. Here, he appears to have several arms and a towering head piece. He stands at a towering 9 Ft Tall!
