Quarai: A Vault to Behold

The sanctuary of the Quarai mission was the largest interor space ever witnessed by the Las Salinas pueblo people of the 17th century. They had built it themselves at the direction of Franciscans in New Mexico. The high slots held vigas, great hewn timbers from the nearby Manzano Mountains, which supported the roof.

Quarai No. 2 in my Salinas Pueblo Missions album.
