Surreal Flame

This detail of an oil painting begain with surreal transparent plasma (left panel) that I really liked. Unfortunately it didn't work in the more realistic painting-in-progress to which it belongs. In the successive panels, I built up opaque cadmium colors (lemon, yellow, orange, and red). The final blue fringe is cobalt blue (semi-transparent) atop opaque titanium white.

For the reference photos, see "Wick" and "Wick Anew," both in my Photography Studies album.
