I wanted to use the color splash technique in this photo, so I collected a handful of images of myself over the years, creating the cluttered background by overlapping images and placing them at opposing angles, and then distinguishing the foreground of the two hands and main image by going in and using the selective tool to desaturate the background, essentially simplifying the foreground as being the first thing you see.
