I shot this image between golden and magic hour to naturally add drama using the rich colors and shadows created by the sunset. Positioning the camera to shoot through broken fencing, I used the backlit poles to frame the subject - the offshore oil rig. The broken pole furthers the subject’s emphasis using leading lines. The oil rig is left underexposed to represent the darkness it brings to nature’s colorful environment through toxic drilling operations. The juxtaposition between the colors and shadows express man’s greedy relationship with the ocean.
