Taking this photo I had a couple of ideas straight of the bat. Number one: I could make the ground lit up, and everything above would be greyish. Number two: do the opposite of number one, and number three: create a completely black and white photo. I ended up going with this third option for a number of reasons. When I'm given the opportunity to use an abundance of natural trees (no photoshop), this specific version of black and white is very strong. If you look into the top portion of the photo, you'll see that the background sky is black, as you move down the photo, the light slowly gets completely white. This isn't an easy effect to achieve, but it looks very trippy when done right. The trees are also outlined the be white, which shows the volume of these trees. Then comes the basket. My biggest inspiration for this photo was the timing of when basketball was invented. Because basketball was invented in 1891, I wanted to recreate a possible photograph that could've been taken of this very old basketball court. Because colorized photographs weren't invented until 1953, this is another reason why black and white was my choice of editing. Combined with the old court, and basket itself, the photo is very strong in portraying "basketball back in 1891".
