Australia’s third flying Supermarine Spitfire, 1945 model LF.Mk.XVIe serial number TE392/VH-RAF, delivered with Castle Bromwich constructor's number CBAF IX4551. Aviation Report was present at the Temora Aviation Museum for their Air Force Centenary Showcase in March. Seen here recovering after displaying in the showcase, subject to heavy heat haze.
According to the operator, Fighter Pilot Adventure Flights, over fifteen thousand man-hours have been invested in the restoration process of this historic original airframe, completed by Performance Aero in Brisbane.
The livery chosen for the aircraft is of a Mk IX “DV-A” flown by Frederick Anthony Owen “Tony” Gaze, (DFC & Two Bars, OAM) – one of the great Australian WWII aces.
