Empty Bowls

Over the last 24 years the annual Empty Bowls Project at CT State Manchester has raised over $400,000 to benefit Connecticut Foodshare, the statewide food bank serving all of Connecticut - where over 400,000 people are food insecure, including 1 in 6 children. Participants were able to buy a handmade ceramic bowl and enjoy unlimited soup and bread. According to CT State Manchester CEO Nicole C. Esposito, “For nearly a quarter century, our campus has partnered with Connecticut Foodshare to help feed our community. Connecticut Foodshare is a generous contributor to our Cougar Food Pantry, and it is only fitting that we support their campaign to end hunger. Empty Bowls also allows our students to apply their classroom work to benefit their fellow students and our neighbors. It is truly an exceptional opportunity.” The community came out for this signature event, and were even able purchase take-home quarts of soup, prepared by both Manchester’s Culinary Arts students and local restaurants; bowls were made both on-campus and by local potters.
