ICE Radio 15 years Anniversary

by ma-web

ICE Radio at MCC, the award-winning campus radio station at CT State Manchester, celebrated 15 years on the air on Wednesday, December 6, with an “ICE-lebration” party! Established as a Student Activities Club in 2008 with no equipment, facilities nor programming focus, a group of enthusiastic students met faithfully to brainstorm and plan what a campus radio station should sound – and look - like. Professor of Media/Communication, Albert Kim, fondly recalls the humble beginnings of ICE Radio: “The moniker ‘ICE’ came about because students thought establishing the first-ever internet-based radio station at a CT community college would be ‘cool.’ So “ICE Radio” stuck. They also voted our mascot to be a penguin. For those keeping score at home, the second runner-up mascot was a yeti!”
Kim is grateful and proud of hundreds of students from all walks of life who have joined ICE Radio at MCC as a host, producer, officer, or intern over the past 15 years. “Many of these ICE grads have gone on to work in radio, audio production and media, and it’s so gratifying to hear them say that they all got their start after the light bulb went off above their heads here at Manchester.” Stream ICE Radio live 24/7 at www.manchestercc.edu; download their free mobile app at www.radiofx.co; and check out their archived audio content of podcasts, PSAs, and interviews at www.soundcloud.com/iceradiomcc!
