OBJECT – Yeoman uniform, male: close up of epaulettes on the white shirt, decorated with HMS Belfast lettering and IWM crest. The epaulettes feature the crest of the Imperial War Museum which show: “Out of an ancient crown Or, in front of an embattled gate gules, the portcullis raised sable, a lion passant guardant crowned Or.” The “embattled gate gules” is red, the rest of the design in gold colour, against a black background.
IMAGE – The crest is copied from the Imperial War Museums’ coat of arms that was awarded on February 10, 1969. It consists of “Arms : Gules, a trophy composed of a spade and hammer with two swords, all in saltire, and conjoined wings in fess surmounted by an anchor, in chief a chain enarched, all Or. Crest: Out of an ancient crown Or, in front of an embattled gate gules, the portcullis raised sable, a lion passant guardant crowned Or. Motto: That the past may serve”
Male Yeoman from HMS Belfast pictured during a work break feeding nuts to a squirrel. As well as his uniform of white shirt with epaulettes, dark blue trousers and black shoes, he has a security guard’s accreditation card attached to his waist via a plastic pocket.
The photograph was taken in July 2021, after a chance meeting by a photographer and the subject, during his work break from yeoman duties onboard HMS Belfast. In April 2021, the Visitor Services & Security department was transferred from Bidvest Noonan to a new company, Z E Global Ltd. The worker in the photograph is a yeoman and likely to fall within this department and therefore, may be an employee or worker with Z E Global Ltd.
