HMS VINDICTIVE, A TOUCH OF HISTORY
During the night of 9 to 10 May 1918, the British Navy attempted to use the HMS Vindictive to block the port of Ostend and thus prevent passage of German submarines to the North Sea. The HMS Vindictive (with a crew of 55) was sunk in the harbour channel of Ostend. The raid cost the British 8 deaths, 10 missing and 29 wounded. Close to the place where the ship was sunk, this memorial is now a silent witness of the Great War. Location: east bank of the port of Ostend.
