The artwork, the paddlers, the sea and the sun

One of the most striking works of art by Italian artist Rosa Barba is on the beach of Mariakerke near Ostend. A tower of stacked concrete sandbags that is partly flooded at high tide. The artist found inspiration in the piles of boulders that hikers sometimes make. Its monumental tower is also a yardstick for sea level rise.
