Exceptional: the flowering titan arum

Amorphophallus titanum, the titan arum endemic to Sumatra, is a flowering plant with the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world.

Due to its odour, like that of a rotting corpse, the titan arum is characterized as a carrion flower, and is also known as the corpse flower or corpse plant.

The plant only flowers once every 7 to 10 years and that for a very short time (only a few days). (This photo was taken on May 12th 2021)
