State Library of Victoria, Melbourne #2
I had hoped to get a shot from directly below dead centre, but for reasons given in the description for my preceding image, that was not possible. Because I was forced to be outside the central ‘pulpit’, the closer I got to it, the more it intruded into a wide-angle view.
In my youth, the glass of the dome was permanently covered because rainwater had got in. The atmosphere was somewhat cavelike. My father would speak regretfully of the wonderful light that used to flood the room. Then, when the dome was restored to its original state, there were bitter complaints from people who had only known the stygian gloom!
An earlier posting shows a street view of the building in which the top of the dome is clearly visible:
Lunch on the Grass -- Déjeuner sur l'herbe.
That assists the interpretation of what is visible here.
