Game on!
... "He Didn't Go after the Slider"
In November 2009 my wife and I had a holiday in New York. Our hotel was on East 42nd Street and one evening we walked to Times Square after our evening meal. As we approached, increasingly loud massed unison basso human expostulations could be heard. All was revealed when we arrived -- there was a baseball World Series final game on and the Yankees were playing the Phillies. It certainly added to the atmosphere. The colour temperature in this image applied just at that moment, but other photos just seconds apart confirm my memory that this was in continual flux.
The early model pocket camera's EXIF says the picture was taken on Nov 5 at 13:42h, but the Baseball Reference web site indicates that the game was played on November 4, starting at 7:58pm and finishing at 11:50pm. However the camera would have been set to Melbourne time, 16 hours ahead of NY at that time of year. So the picture would have actually been taken at 9:42pm NY time on Nov 4. For the record, the Yankees won, so a good night for New York.
For the TV screen I devised a kind of digital "burning in" technique to get slightly more definition into that part of the image compared with the original (which is everywhere else unaltered), but ultimately much of the ballplayer is too overexposed to show any further detail.
