Collins Street #1 -- Treasury Building Once, Museum Now
Melbourne has managed to retain a few of its buildings from the glory days of the gold rush. Many are in or near the city's most prestigious thoroughfare, Collins Street.
This building was formerly the treasury and it held bullion from the gold fields. It is considered to be one of the finest remaining examples of nineteenth century Melbourne architecture, designed by J.J.Clark when he was nineteen years old. It is no longer the treasury but a museum.
