Britannia Waives Some Rules

Old Williamstown was a tough maritime town. This was once the Britannia Hotel, but it currently operates as the Site Office for a large engulfing housing project. It is seen here around 4:00PM on a very dull late autumn day. Because of the feeble external light, a model ship can be seen in the upstairs room lit by artificial light.

I have located a print of a photo I took of a sign in a window of this pub in the early 1970s, from one of my very first film rolls in my first serious camera, an Olympus 35SP. The sign read as in the introductory comment below or in this link

ON FRIDAY + SATURDAY NIGHTS COLLARS + TIES ARE TO BE WORN IN LOUNGES AFTER 7.00p.m.

GENTLEMEN ARE TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY A LADY.

(SAILORS OPTIONAL)

Nice to know that gentlemen could get in without necessarily being accompanied by a sailor.
