Southern Hanami 1 -- First Glimpse
At the end of winter on a walk in a local Melbourne reserve we learned that it had a grove of some one hundred transplanted cherry blossom trees that had originally been grown from seeds presented as a gift by Japan, and that later in October there is an hanami (花見) celebration, following the Japanese tradition of northern hemisphere springtime.
We went there to check how things were progressing, in case the show came early and we missed it. Some of the trees were in full bloom, others not yet started. Other people were also there on a similar mission.
This photo shows something I like in photography -- a perceivable geometric pattern, but one that is not too rigid. In this case the tree trunks suggest a symmetry around the midline vertical. Also, while the verticals are dark, they are crossed by a narrow band of brightness that is horizontal and obviously rearwards.
