Shadow Shoes and Hose
For now the midday sun can still create the illusion that these feet are wearing shoes and stockings. But soon it will be too high to shine in through the screen on our opened front door onto the small Persian rug* in the entranceway.
Some people like ladies' feet to be bare, others prefer them stockinged or shod or both. This and its companion photo have a foot in both camps, as it were...
I find this image affecting for several reasons. One is that I have never known the person above the feet to opt for anything outside the red part of the spectrum. But when she asked if I’d do her feet before a short hospital admission, I thought we’d try this scenario to add to my suite of photos celebrating those sweet feet. I suggested blue because I believed that it would work much better with this rug. The different impact is startling to me, and here at least, runs counter to the rule that red is exciting, while blue is calming.
