Patagonia sin represas

A group of protesters holding up banners, including one reading ‘Patagonia sin Represas’ (‘Patagonia without dams’) in Chile, 2007.

Photo taken during NRDC’s on the ground campaign against HidroAysén, a controversial megaproject that aims to build five hydroelectric power plants in Chile's Patagonian Aysén Region, two on the Baker River and three on the Pascua River.

The scheme would flood thousands of acres of wildlife habitat and clearcut a 1,400 mile swath through five national parks and two wilderness reserves to make way for the world’s largest transmission line.
