5 March 2020 - Kaya, Burkina Faso.
Naomie OUEDRAOGO, hairdresser in Kaya.
Naomie OUEDRAOGO is a 25-year-old girl who participated in Rever d’Avenir, a UNDP project in which young people were « coached » to imagine their future and take charge of themselves. She used to not like school too much, so she decided after the training to take her in charge and get into hairdressing. To train, she went to learn from a professional hairdresser and after 6 months, she started alone in opening of her own salon. She installed her hairdresser shop under a tree a few meters from her home. She hopes to find a local roadside in a few month after saving enough money.
With the accelerator lab, the UNDP went in search of solutions that could answer the question of the employability of young girls and boys in view of the precarious security situation in this part of Burkina and the numerous consequences caused.
Solution 2: "Dreaming of the future" is a purely local solution, developed by teachers. It is a question of a social innovation aimed at the emancipation and the development of young girls and boys from 12 to 20 through an initiative called "Dreaming the future" and having for slogan: "Me before, Me now and Me in fifteen years ». This innovation is based on the observation that many young people are deprived of choices and options because they are not only limited by poverty and prejudice; but also limited in their knowledge of how men and women are perceived in society. This innovation sets itself the ambition to boost the creative capacity of young people through a dual process combining theoretical training and manual work.
