WNO 481 Restoration Date 14th July 2022
Progress continues with the nearside panelling almost completed. The driver's side floor has now been made ready to receive the new mudguard / wing which will then see the nearside wing fitted. The body has been completely stripped of old paint because the old paint could react with the new paint and cause peeling so we're not taking the chance. Electrical work ongoing and soon to be completed. Carl is fitting gauges for temp, oil pressure etc. which involves fitting sensors to protect the Gardner engine. The new destination blind has arrived at the workshop and will replace the McCartney original which will be kept safely in storage. The top deck is being measured up for a cover and once we get the 3D image we'll be able to design and discuss options. The McCartney Stage is fully assembled with a few tweaks remaining to complete the job. It's looking very impressive and I cannot wait to sing a song on it ! The triangular truss stage supports are now complete with adjusters for uneven ground. Ray the joiner is making the storage boxes for under the seats on the lower deck and replicas of the original tables that came from a coach identical to or maybe even off the 1970 England World Cup Team Coach. The (as close as possible to the original) racing green flooring has arrived for the lower deck. The upper deck covering is still being worked out. Great news: safe and discreet storage for WNO 481 has just been secured and the bus couldn't be in better hands when I'm not there. This was a concern to find the right situation under cover and lock and key. It's location is confidential of course but I can tell you it's in its home county of Essex.
