Fading Glow

Last fall I took my last good fall photo from this location. It's always been a tough nut for me to crack, unpredictable weather patters creating dense cloud cover over the scene, heavy haze obscuring the peaks in the distance, trying to find a composition within the chaos. There's an angle I hadn't attempt before. The high vantage. There is a large boulder at this location, 20 foot tall form the road. From that boulder you're above the foreground clutter, you have an unobstructed view, which is really great... If you're fine with heights, I am not. Yesterday, golden hour had set in, and while I wasn't insistent on getting a shot, I did have a few locations in mind. This was one of them. Upon getting here there was another photographer on the ground snapping hand held, he was trying to find a deep composition, so as he had arrived first he had the run of the areas he wanted. Really, it's etiquette, but he was having the same problems I always have here. My friend who was with me told me about the view from the boulder.... So up I went despite my legs being like jelly and not knowing how to get back down there I was, snapping photos from the top of a boulder on the side of the road, trying not to think of the nearly 200 foot drop inches from where my tripod sat....
