Out of the shadows into the light
I wore my shadow like a second skin,
A careful mask, a practiced grin.
I bent my voice, I dulled my flame,
To keep the world from calling my name.
Through narrow halls of whispered doubt,
I locked my truest self without.
The years were heavy, silence long,
A muted heart, an unsung song.
But one bright dawn, I loosed the chain,
And felt the warmth dissolve my pain.
The sun rose gentle on my face,
And I stood unhidden, in my place.
No shame, no veil, no need to run,
At last I live beneath the sun.
The truth once buried, now can rise,
Alive, unbroken, in open skies.
Out of the shadows into the light
I wore my shadow like a second skin,
A careful mask, a practiced grin.
I bent my voice, I dulled my flame,
To keep the world from calling my name.
Through narrow halls of whispered doubt,
I locked my truest self without.
The years were heavy, silence long,
A muted heart, an unsung song.
But one bright dawn, I loosed the chain,
And felt the warmth dissolve my pain.
The sun rose gentle on my face,
And I stood unhidden, in my place.
No shame, no veil, no need to run,
At last I live beneath the sun.
The truth once buried, now can rise,
Alive, unbroken, in open skies.
