B & W Winter Bridge

A comparison of old design and new design. This old barn is no longer in use but sits along an old canal. The canal got a new traffic bridge a year or so back. The new laminated bridge struts stand in high contrast to old structure. To help place this canal in history, you might like to know this was a heavily used merchant route where barges where pulled along the waterway by mules. The mule drivers would walk the shore with heavy cables connecting barge and beast and transport goods between several towns. The water in this historic canal is now kept low and bike paths line its shore. But as you can see, a bit of the past still remains. Morris, IL
