Nikon 501 Kodak Gold Jun24_16

Bee orchids taken on Kodak Gold 200, with my Nikon F501. These were photographed in the soon to open new Bird Reserve in the North of the Isle Of Man. This former gravel pit is turning into a terrific haven for wildlife and some lovely wild flowers. There are also invasive plants, but the team have been working hard to manage these so the native species such as this Bee Orchid can thrive. They have followed a policy of trying not to introduce anything in the way of plants and animals. The gravel pits have quite large bodies of water where historic extraction took the pits below the water table. These now have fish in them and again this has occurred without any need to introduce any. It is believed some birds and especially ducks will carry fish eggs on their feet.
