Legendary Kenny Wayne 'Blues Boss' at Redwood Theatre.
Kenny Wayne is a well known blues, boogie-woogie, jazz and shake-your-body funk piano player. Born in Spokane, Wa, he grew up in San Francisco, but left his heart in Canada. He is a great story teller and referenced his musical idols at this concert as Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Big Joe Turner and Jimmy Reed. Kenny moved to New Orleans, Los Angeles, lived in Hawaii for a while and in 1981 settled in Vancouver.
Not sure why, but possibly heart was involved. Kenny Wayne is known also as a songwriter and vocalist. I have seen him few times and his colourful metallic jackets and beautiful hats are as legendary as his music. He just turned 80, but he is not slowing down. His European tour in January, with concerts in Switzerland and Italy, is expected to sell out. He is down to earth, talking to fans after the concert and signing CDs. He recently moved to Ontario. Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne played with sidemen David Daniels- guitar, Rick Donaldson- drums, Nick Succhi- bass, and featuring the talented Trombone Charlotte.
Opening for the 'Blues Boss' was supposed to be a blues trio, but today's economy dictated that Kenny Wayne was doing solo introduction.
