Melanie Charles, from music cradle Brooklyn, Montreal Jazz 2024.

Probably the best concert, I have seen in Montreal this year. The cave (as I call the former Astral theatre) was full, so we waited with my friend for 30 min outside and were let in about 15 minutes before the scheduled end. Totally worth the wait. Melanie Charles, a dynamic and versatile artist with a great voice and the band were excellent. Wished it has been longer! Fortunately, the very next day, Melanie Charles had a show with slightly different band of expats Haitians. I had made sure to be early and got a good spot and even a seat!

Melanie Charles is a Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter, actress, and flutist of Haitian descent. Charles has strong ties to her Haitian culture and is one of the most important women in Haitian music today. She performs all over the world. Her second concert did not have her name as the headliner, instead it was entitled 'Haitian Revolution Through the Jazz'. Montreal has strong Haitian Community (150,000) and the place was again filled to rafters.
