Budapest - Moments

The statue of Anonymus (Hungarian: Anonymus szobra) is a bronze sculpture made by the Hungarian sculptor Miklós Ligeti in Budapest in 1903, honoring the hitherto unknown author of the Gesta Hungarorum, a chronicle of the Magyars from their settlement in the Danube plain in 896 to the early Middle Ages.

The statue is located in the inner-city park City Grove, on Széchenyi Island, directly opposite the entrance of the Museum of Agriculture, which is located in Vajdahunyad Castle.

The statue, which appears somewhat ghostly in the dim light, shows a medieval scribe in a seated figure with flowing robe and hood pulled deep into his face. In this way, Ligeti figuratively translated the hitherto open question of the scribe's identity.
