Busy day at North Wall
A busy scene at Dublin North Wall one sunny day c.1992.
CIE “141” class 165 is ready to take out a mixed freight, while on the right “Metrovick” 009 is waiting to take out a loaded train of Guinness kegs one sunny day c.1992. This traffic ceased in 2006 when the distribution contract was lost to road transport.
The 37 strong “141” class were a twin cab development of the earlier single cab “121” locos and introduced from 1962. All were withdrawn by 2010 and a handful have been preserved.
This 60 strong Metrovick “001” class were built in the mid 1950s originally with Crossley engines but rebuilt in the early 1970s with EMD powerplants, lasting until the class was withdrawn in the mid 1990s. Several livery variations were carried during their lives, this is the final one with white lining to the black band and the IR logo replacing the CIE roundel.
