The Daily Grind 2
Few photographs are seen of the Speno rail grinding trains which toured the network in the late 1970s to mid 1980s, and those that I’ve seen are at least a year of two later than this.
The 5 section train was built in Switzerland and used for reprofiling rails using several grinding wheels. There were two of them on hire to BR which toured the country, but unusually the Swiss / Italian crew who operated these lived on board the train and it was therefore stabled somewhere near a supply of water and some shops.
It is seen here parked in Kirkcaldy goods yard on 15th September 1977.
