Odd One Out
In 1974 Haymarket’s allocation of class 40s increased significantly with the transfer of several examples from North West England. The odd one out was 40142, the only box headcode example to be allocated outside the LMR, arriving in May 1974.
Here it is seen setting off from platform 2 at Haymarket station with an Edinburgh to Aberdeen service on 1st April 1977. The coal yard in the background is now offices with a tram line in front!
