Stalwart sidelined
After the demise of steam, most Scottish steel works relied on Ruston & Hornsby 165DE class locos during the 1960s. Some, like this example, were even wired for multiple working with classmates in a cab-to-cab arrangement with additional connecting doors built into the cab ends.
One survivor RH434775 of 1960 awaits its fate at BSC Dalzell on 2nd April 1981 .
These were gradually taken out of use and replaced by Hunslet and Barclay diesel hydraulics in the 1970s.
