Sternbergia lutea

Sternbergia lutea is a native in Southern Europe, Southwestern and Central Asia, as well as Northern Africa. It grows in forests, wood- and scrublands that experience relatively dry hot summers and rainy winters. While the plants may look similar to Crocuses (which are related to Irises - family Iridaceae), they are actually part of the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae)
