A Neville Puzzle Club 484 piece push-fit puzzle. 18” x 14”. This charming image is titled “A Cornish Village”, sadly no artist signature, unless anyone recognises it.
I must admit I had forgotten how wonderful Neville puzzles are. They are of. Size and cut that is sufficiently challenging to keep you occupied for several days, and the very extensive colour-line cutting can be a horror. As an example I have shown the sky removed in the second photo.
The club was run in the ca1960’s from Rose Cottage, Church Drove, Basingstoke, when the town was somewhat smaller than it now is. Form all the examples I have seen, they look to be the work of a single cutter, who was also probably the proprietor as every single puzzle piece is lovingly stamped with the puzzle number on the back . In the case of the Cornish Harbour, number 231.
If you ever come across a Neville Puzzle, you will instantly recognise it by its very distinctive brick shaped brown card box, see 3rd photo.
