The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: Volume 1 Chapter 4: An Interview With a Spider
Location: Queens Apartment Complex: September 22nd, 2018 11:31 AM
Harry: Hey Pete, have you read this article about you?
Peter: Nah, In fact I don’t really remember that I read anything other than a textbook. I’ve been busy, might need to take a break soon. Anyways, what’s the article about?
Harry: It says, and I quote,“Spider-Man: Threat or Menace?” It’s by the Daily Bugle.
Peter: Huh, The Daily Bugle? They’ve been slandering my name since I started the hero gig!
Harry: Actually slander is spoken, in print it’s libel.
Peter: What does that have to do with anything? Y’know what, Nevermind. Hmmm, y’know what Harry, I’m gonna go straight to the Chief editor of The Daily Bugle and tell him to stop writing those articles!
Harry: What are you gonna do if they don’t? Sue’em?
Peter: Maybe, if the opportunity presents itself.
Harry: Well after you have your talk with Jameson, do you wanna come to a party at my house? It will be at 1:00, and I invited Michelle and a few others.
Peter: Hell yeah! I’d love to! All this Spider-Manning has been a bit of a hassle, so it would be a nice Change of pace. Alright, I’m gonna head out and talk to Jameson, and I’ll meet you at your party. Peace!
Peter puts on his costume, salutes to Harry, and heads off to the Daily Bugle.
Location: Daily Bugle 11:45 AM
Spider-Man hops onto a window of an office in the Daily Bugle and knocks on it. That gains the attention of a man with hair reminiscent of a paint brush, the hair was going grey at the temples, and he had a bushy mustache. He was wearing a white button up with a blue tie and a black vest over it. Spider-Man enters through the window and introduces himself.
Spider-Man: You must be J. Jonah Jameson and you know me, I’m Spider-Man.
JJJ: WHAT THE HELL!? Why are you here?
Spider-Man: Well, I want to do an interview, so that way I can clear up any misconceptions about me. So what do you say, JJJ?
Jonah took a moment to think, then he gestures to a seat on the other side of his desk.
JJJ: Fine take a seat, remember I’m the one in control not you! Got it?
Spider-Man: Alright, no problem. You ask the questions I answer them. So hit me with your first question.
They both sit down and Jonah grabs a notepad.
JJJ: So…..Why the mask? Why do any of this at all?
Spider-Man: Well, the mask is to protect my identity. If the criminals I face knew who I was, my friends and family would be put at risk. They already threaten my family’s livelihood, and I can’t take those threats lightly.
JJJ cuts him of and says, “So, they don’t have a choice in the matter? You are essentially making the decision to be in danger or not, for them. Do they even know?” Jonah takes a moment to have a realization. He soon realizes that he’s talking to a kid, not some looney adult as he thought previously.
JJJ: How old are you?
Spider-Man: I’m 16, I’ve been doing this for a year.
Jonah puts his notepad down and places his hand over his face. He was in disbelief as he said, “You’re...You're a kid? Get out…….If you really want to protect New York go to the police academy and get a badge. Until then, I suggest you hang up the costume for good. If not for your sake, maybe the people you care about. This interview is over.” Spider-Man stands up and thinks about something.
Spider-Man: I promised someone that I use my abilities to do good, and I’m not breaking that promise. I’m not gone to stop being Spider-Man.
Spider-Man leaps out the window and heads to Harry’s place. He changes into his normal clothes and knocks on the door, and Norman Osborn opens it. Norman was a fairly taller than average man, with light orange-ish hair, and he was wearing a green button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
Location: Osborn Residence 12:00 PM
Norman: Oh, Peter! It’s good to see you! It’s been awhile.
Peter: It has been awhile, and it’s good to see you too.
Norman: Well, Harry’s in the back setting up the party. Enjoy yourself!
Peter nods and walks to Harry and says hi.
Harry: Oh hey man, you’re early. How did the interview with Jameson go?
Peter: Pretty terrible. He found out I was a teenager and immediately shut down the interview, which is sorta fair but I would’ve been interested in a longer talk.
Harry: Well, maybe it wasn’t meant to be. But hey at least you’re on time for once
Peter: Hardy har har. Man, with school, Spider-Manning and my internship with Doc, I don’t think I’ll ever have time or be on time for anything. Heck, I don’t even remember the last time I did anything for myself, like dating.
Harry: Maybe take the weekends off, or at least Saturday. Then somehow gather the balls to ask a girl out without majorly messing it up.
Peter just looked at him with the most hurt, but understanding face ever.
Peter: Y’know…..There’s such a thing as keeping it TOO real. Like damn bro, almost hurt my Parker pride.
Harry just looked at him for an uncomfortable amount of time with confusion, before going on to say, “Hold up…...The hell is your Parker Pride?
Peter: It’s just something Aunt May said about me and…….Uncle Ben. I guess I got my stubbornness from him growing up. Oh look, Michelle’s here.
Michelle: Of course I’m here. You losers wouldn’t have any fun without me. Now let’s get this shindig started.
Harry: Says the one who uses the word “shindig.”
Peter: Heh, you’ve got to admit, he’s got a point. But yeah, let’s get these decorations up before anyone else pulls up.
The group got the party fully set up within the hour and soon more people came in. Randy Robertson, Ollie Osnick, Antoine Delsoin, Liz Allan, Flash Thompson, and several more from Midtown showed up.
Harry: Now….Now’s your chance Pete. Go ask out Liz…..But remember to be smart about it.
Peter: Uh...I….Shit…..Fine….
Harry: Ayyyy, that’s what I like to hear. Now go get’em my guy.
Peter walked up to Liz, who was weirdly by herself, and he just stood beside her to start the conversation
Peter: So, what’s a social butterfly like you being a wallflower like me?
Liz just glanced at him
Liz: Is that how you always approach girls, Parker?
Peter: If I knew how to. No. But I don’t, so that’s how I’ll start the conversation.
Liz: Well if you must know... I actually like being by myself sometimes, Parker.
Peter: Huh, you actually replied? And knew my name? That’s cool. Well anyways, I understand. Solitude can really be calming or whatever the reason may be. Sometimes it’s nice to have a moment to yourself.
Liz: Of course I know your name. We’ve had at least one class each year together since 6th grade. Why would I not know you?
Peter: I guess, I figured since you dated and hung out with the more popular crowd you’d never think twice about someone like me. Speaking of which, aren’t you with Flash? Like together in a relationship and whatnot?
Liz: We broke up...Why do you want to know? Are you gonna ask me out now that you know I’m single?
Peter: Ehhh, no. That’s douchey. You probably need time, hence the reason you’re by yourself? I don’t know, asking you out right now doesn’t seem cool or the right thing to do.
Liz: Y’know that’s actually kind of swee-
Before Liz finished her sentence, screaming could be heard from across the room along with the sound of glass breaking. It was Scorpion! He was back, but for what reason? He was out for blood. The blood of Osborn. Across the room, Scorpion got ahold of Harry as Norman came into the room.
Scorpion: Oh, Norman! You really should’ve kept your end of the bargain. Maybe if I take something of yours until you man up and give me my money. How about your precious son?
Norman: You sick bastard. Don’t bring my son into this! He has nothing to do with this. Please leave him alone.
Scorpion: Well I’m afraid he is now. It’s all your fault Norman, you only have yourself to blame. I’ll keep your son safe, if you have my money by tomorrow. ‘Til the, so long, you Greedy Goblin!
With Harry tightly wrapped in the tail, Scorpion leapt out the broken window and fled the scene.
