Sierra I Class SSN (Project 945 Barrakuda) Cutaway
A cutaway model of a Soviet Sierra I class SSN (Project 945 Barrakuda), built at approximately 1:144 scale. These submarines represented a huge step forward in Soviet submarine technology, with a titanium hull and storage for up to 40 torpedoes. Like a number of Soviet submarines, it had both 533mm and 650mm torpedo tubes. The larger tubes could be used to fire the Type 65-76 wake homing "Whale" torpedo, which was designed with the intended goal of being able to sink or heavily damage a US carrier.
With the exception of the sonar array in the nose, the grey area roughly represents the sub's pressure hull.
