1965 Iso A3C Competition Berlinetta
I had no idea what this car was when I 1st saw it, but I knew it was something exotic from the 60s. Giotto Bizzarini is a famous engineer, responsible for the all-time classic Ferrari 250 GTO. After he left (was fired from depending on who's telling the story) Ferrari, he went to Lamborghini and then ISO, where he developed the A3C for racing. The agreement between ISO and Bizzarini was for 20 license built cars, all designed for racing.
Giotto slightly overstepped the agreement and built 22 cars. However, he was unable to sell all the cars. Bizzarini then did some modifications on this car so he could sell it to an owner that did not want a full on race vehicle. The racing harness was replaced by a lap belt, turn signal/high beam stalk was added to the steering column, and the 'Grifo 5300' badge was added to the "C" pillar-- the Grifo 5300 was strictly a road car, not for racing, the fiberglass body was too soft to hold up the stress..
The riveted body is gorgeous. As mentioned above, only the designed for racing A3Cs had this riveted body, touring cars got fiberglass.
