Photo: Peter Casey

Pictured: the plaque on the front of the cairn, made of replica sandbags, which forms the bulk of the monument.

The plaque reads, in part, "The National Servicemen's Ode - Have you forgotten yet? / Let us remember those who have served / Australia with pride and distinction, / Look up, and swear by the green of the spring / that you will never forget. / We will never forget."

The monument commemorates the National Servicemen, Citizens Military Forces and Reserve Forces of Wagga Wagga and District. Between 1951 and 1972, there were two separate schemes for compulsory training in the Navy, Army and Air Force. Of the young men who served, 212 died on active service in Borneo and Vietnam.

The monument was dedicated on Saturday 17th September, 2005.
