How to Pick Up a Pelican (Imaginative Story)

Boris was looking at Yolanda, the beautiful female pelican, with admiring eyes. I suppose some might say she was 'out of his league' but as he said "If you shoot for the stars you might land in the mountains!" His friends turned away on such comments and continued on with their previous conversation.

But this time he meant it. She was really beautiful and he was feeling pretty chic himself. He was chatting her up nicely with a "Hey what brings you to these rocks" and "Have you tried the local sardines?"

Although she never turned around, he naturally assumed he was making progress. He was dreaming of taking her back to the nest he had already built full of bling! There was shiny wrappers from discarded candy bars, a bright red deflector from a broken bike lamp and his piece de resistance ... a bright purple satin ribbon that he accidentally borrowed from a little girl with a swirly lollipop. I mean who could resist such a wonderful nest!

Boris continued with one of his tried and true conversation starters ... "I know of a great seafood place around here ... just around the corner ...:

When suddenly the air was filled with the deep, resonating sounds of winds beating down from everywhere. It was like a deep bass melody from a foreign song far away.

As Boris looked up, a magificent Pelican descended with wide wings harrumphing in the wind. Long legs extended and muscles taut.

Pietro landed on the rock beside Yolanda like he knew that everyone knew that he was something! The sea slapped against the rocks merrily and there were a thousand cries of joy from far over the waves. What a magnificent bird!

There was passion in his walk as he looked at Boris with a slight hint of malice but smiled warmly at Yolanda who shrugged as if she expected nothing less.

Boris reviewed his options thoroughly and decided on a new course of action.

He turned to Pietro and calmly said "Hey what brings you to these rocks ... I know of a great seafood place just around the corner ..."

Unfortunately my ride arrived then with other appointments on the Ecuadorian Coast. I never did find out what happened to Boris, but with such an enterprising bird, the sky is the limit!
